Headache care in Winchester

Headaches and migraines are on the list of problems our treatments commonly help. Here is how we approach them carefully.

Headaches that start in the neck

Some headaches, such as tension-type headaches and headaches that start in the neck (called cervicogenic headaches), are linked to tight muscles and stiff, restricted joints in the neck and upper back. Long hours at a desk, looking down at a phone, stress and poor sleep can all play a part.

We start by listening: when your headaches happen, where you feel them and what makes them better or worse. Then we examine your neck, upper back and posture to see whether they are contributing.

How we help

Specific chiropractic adjustments. A precise, controlled movement applied to a joint that is restricted or not moving well. The goal is to restore healthy joint motion and support communication between your nervous system and your body. More about adjustments.

Passive therapies. Electrical stimulation, our mechanical massage table and cold therapy to ease pain and relax tight muscles.

Active care. Exercises and stretches you can continue at home to build strength and flexibility.

Migraines

If you live with migraines, we will talk through your history and how chiropractic care might fit with the care you get from your medical doctor.

Your first visit

Self-pay options are available. See what to expect as a new patient.

When to get urgent medical care

Call 911 or go to the emergency room, rather than booking a chiropractic visit, if you have:

  • A sudden, severe headache, or the worst headache of your life
  • A headache after a blow to the head, fall or car crash
  • Headache with fever and a stiff neck
  • Headache with confusion, weakness, numbness, trouble speaking or changes in vision

Also at our office: Massage therapy with Westley Rowe, LMT (Meet Westley), and Personal training with Bobby Stewart, M.Ed., of MedFit PT (Meet Bobby). Both are booked separately from chiropractic visits.

Headache questions

Can a chiropractor help with headaches?

Headaches and migraines are on the list of problems our treatments commonly help. Some headaches, such as tension-type headaches and headaches that start in the neck, are linked to tight muscles and stiff, restricted joints in the neck and upper back. We examine your neck, upper back and posture to see whether they are contributing before we recommend care.

What is a cervicogenic headache?

A cervicogenic headache is a headache that starts in the neck. You feel the pain in your head, but it comes from the joints, muscles or nerves of the neck.

Do you treat migraines?

If you live with migraines, we’ll talk through your history and how chiropractic care might fit with the care you get from your medical doctor. Chiropractic care doesn’t replace your doctor’s care.

What should I tell you at my first visit?

When your headaches happen, where you feel them and what makes them better or worse. Long hours at a desk, looking down at a phone, stress and poor sleep can all play a part, so mention those too. Bring your insurance card(s); that’s all you need. See posture & desk work.
